Ground Station Software Engineer

SII UK has been selected as a partner to support in the ramp up and development of the UK division of a global leader providing technology information systems, products and services within the fields of Science, exploration & innovation. SII will be acting as an extension of capabilities onboarding and integrating a full-range of Engineer/ Data Scientist from, graduate/ junior & mid to senior level into a small team of technical and subject matter experts to support day to day operations in multiple business segments.

Ground Segment (GS): Mission control, planning & scheduling; data handling; performance simulation & monitoring; calibration & validation Skills: Data processing algorithms, C++, knowledge of ground systems

The Ground Station Software Engineer will support the UK activities in the following areas:

  • The candidate shall design and implement C++ software processing algorithms for scientific data acquired by optical instruments onboard an Earth Observation satellite.
  • Software Validation and Verification
  • Work with software lead when required to help create the design and support project goals

Educational Requirements:

Required:

  • Sufficient industry experience in a relevant role or a MSc or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Maths or Computer Science

Technical Requirements: 

Required: 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role in Software development and/or algorithm definition
  • Developing software in one or more of the following: C/C++, Java, Python or Fortran
  • Technical knowledge of MATLAB
  • Developing code on a Linux OS
  • Relevant developing experience following programming standards in different programming languages (detailed in the technical requirements)

Desirable: 

  • Experience in developing or using computer simulations of real-world systems, or in analysis of data.
  • Knowledge of image processing techniques should be considered an asset.
  • Industry experience within a relevant organisation
  • Experience in ESA/European programmes is welcome.
  • Experience in the Instrument Processing Chain would be helpful.
